URGENT! Your Scout Group Needs You!

We would love to hear from any parents or members of the East Sheen community who would like to join the committee or help at Group meetings.

In particular, we are looking for people who would like to get involved with any of these roles, on either a regular or ad hoc basis:

  • Group events – eg. social evening, quiz night, summer BBQ
  • Managing our kit & equipment, eg. tents, gas cookers, etc for Camp
  • Book keeping
  • 2nd hand uniform
  • Help at Beaver, Cub or Scout meetings (need to have CRB check)
  • If you think you could help us with any of these roles, please do get in touch.  You can contact our Group Chairman, Victoria Denison, at victoria@eastsheenscouts.org or on 020 8876 1787 or Lynn Milner, our Scout Leader: lynn@eastsheenscouts.org, 020 8549 5064.

And, if you would like to join the committee we would love to hear from you.  It’s not a big commitment but it’s a vital part of running the Group as a charity.  We meet once or twice a term at the Barnes Home Guard Club in East Sheen. The meetings are informal and last no longer than 2 hours.  You are welcome to join us!

We will require some volunteers to complete a CRB check – it’s straightforward and all we ask is for you to complete the form and show us some ID documents (passport or driving licence and utility bill).  You can download the CRB form here: Scouts CRB Form

    Bag packing reaches new target!

Well done to everyone who took part in our fundraising day bag packing at Waitrose.
You all raised a staggering £967.14 which is £130 more than last year.

Everyone agreed that the money will be donated to two charities – SPEAR which supports homeless people in the Richmond area (www.spearlondon.org) and Crisis at Christmas, a national charity for the homeless (www.crisis.org.uk).

So thank you to all the Cubs and Scouts who worked so hard today – in true Scouting style you did something amazing to help others.  And you received lots of compliments from customers and the staff at Waitrose who said how cheerful and polite you were.

RORY, DEXTER, BEN, SAMUEL, LUKE, HARRY, NATHANIEL, SOPHIE, GEORGE, LYDIA, DEREK, KAREN, ROSIE, THOMAS, LUCCA, NICHOLAS, SASHA & ARCHIE.

And thank you to Waitrose for hosting us on a busy Saturday – and for providing lunch for the bag packers!

    Experimenting with magnets!

    032019

The Atlantic colony had great fun sliding along the floor pretending to be guitar heroes at the beginning of this week. The activity chosen by the Beavers was to ‘Experiment’. To start with, the Beavers spoke about what objects they thought might be magnetic including scissors, paperclips and chairs. Tom informed the class that “Steel has iron in it”, to help the others understand which metals could be magnetic. Each lodge emptied their envelope onto the table to reveal the objects they would be testing to see if they were magnetic. They each took it in turns to use the big magnet and test each object. They then put a paperclip in a glass of water and used the magnet to get it out. The Beavers also used the magnet to move the paperclip through a maze on a piece of paper. They found most difficult moving the paperclip through the table. Frank said, “It was harder through the table because it was thicker.” Here are some photos of the Beavers experimenting with magnets.
